JOIN THE COMMITTEE / SUBCOMMITTEE

The D1 Committee seeks volunteers to participate in its standards development process. The committee is recruiting all types of members as well as members with specific interests (Educators) in regard to the committee’s scope. Contact Jennifer Rosario to learn more about this committee’s work and/or complete the Technical Committee Application.

As part of the standards development process, joining this committee will give you access to Accuris Engineering Workbench to streamline your workflow.

PUBLISHED DOCUMENTS

AWS D1.1/D1.1M:2025-AMD1

Structural Welding Code – Steel

This code covers the welding requirements for any type of welded structure made from the commonly used carbon and low-alloy constructional steels. Clauses 1 through 11 constitute a body of rules for the regulation of welding in steel construction. There are eight normative and eleven informative annexes in this code. A Commentary of the code is included with the document.

The printed hard copy will be available soon.

AWS D1.2/D1.2M:2014

Structural Welding Code – Aluminum

This code covers the welding requirements for any type structure made from aluminum structural alloys, except for aluminum pressure vessels and pressure piping. Clauses 1 through 8 constitute a body of rules for the regulation of welding in aluminum construction. A commentary on the code is also included with the document.

AWS D1.3/D1.3M:2025

Structural Welding Code – Sheet Steel

This code covers the requirements associated with welding sheet steel having a minimum specified yield point no greater than 80 ksi [550 MPa]. The code requirements cover any welded joint made from the commonly used structural quality low-carbon hot rolled and cold rolled sheet and strip steel with or without zinc coating (galvanized). Clause 1 includes general provisions, Clause 4 design, Clause 5 prequalification, Clause 6 qualification, Clause 7 fabrication, and Clause 8 inspection.

AWS D1.4/D1.4M:2018-AMD1

Structural Welding Code – Steel Reinforcing Bars

This code covers the requirements for welding steel reinforcing bars in most reinforced concrete applications. It contains a body of rules for the regulations of welding steel reinforcing bars and provides suitable acceptance criteria for such welds.

AASHTO/AWS D1.5M/D1.5:2025

Bridge Welding Code

This code covers the welding requirements for welded bridges made from carbon and low-alloy constructional steels and designed to AASHTO or AREMA requirements. This 2025 edition contains dimensions in metric SI Units and U.S. Customary Units. Clauses 1 through 9 constitute a body of rules for the regulation of welding in steel construction. Clauses 10 and 11 do not contain provisions, as their analogue D1.1/D1.1M sections are not applicable to the D1.5 code. Clause 12 contains the requirements for fabricating fracture-critical members.

Guide for Strengthening and Repairing Existing Structures

This guide provides information on strengthening and repairing existing structures. Included are sections on weldability, evaluation of existing welds, testing and sampling, heat-straightening, and damage repair.

AWS D1.8/D1.8M:2025

Structural Welding Code – Seismic Supplement

This code supplements the requirements of AWS D1.1/D1.1M, Structural Welding Code—Steel. This code is intended to be applicable to welded joints in Seismic Force Resisting Systems designed in conformance with AISC 341, Seismic Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings. Clauses 1–7 constitute a body of rules for the regulation of welding in Seismic Force Resisting Systems. There are seven normative annexes in this code. A commentary of the code is included with the document.

AWS D1.9/D1.9M:2015

Structural Welding Code – Titanium

This code covers the requirements for design and welding of any type of titanium structure. Titanium pressure vessels and fluid-carrying pipe lines are specifically excluded. Clauses 1 through 5 and Annex A constitute a body of rules for the regulation of welding in titanium construction. A commentary on the code is also included with the document.
