Q: How can stainless steel pipe have markings identifying that it meets both 304 and 304L? Is it acceptable to weld this when a contract requires 304L?

 

A: If the material meets the chemical composition and mechanical property requirements of the specification for both materials, it is called dual certified. This material can be utilized for applications where either 304 or 304L is required.
