Inspections form the foundation of safety, reliability, and performance across every welded and fabricated structure. To meet the growing need for precision and consistency, the American Welding Society (AWS) and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) will co-host the Inspection Expo & Conference (IEC), taking place February 2–4, 2026, at the Renaissance Austin Hotel.
IEC 2026 unites leaders in the inspection industry under one roof — bringing together welding inspectors, engineers, fabricators, NDT professionals, and educators to exchange ideas and address real-world inspection challenges. Attendees will explore the latest advances in nondestructive testing, welding inspection, and materials performance, and learn how to apply new technologies and standards that strengthen safety and quality in the field.
This year’s program will deliver comprehensive insights into the core areas of welding inspection—corrosion, nondestructive testing, steel construction, and beyond—while also spotlighting the emerging role of artificial intelligence in the inspection process. From practical applications to forward-looking innovations, attendees will gain valuable strategies for navigating both today’s challenges and tomorrow’s opportunities in the welding inspection field.
“IEC is where inspection professionals connect across disciplines to share what’s working — and what’s next,” said conference chair, Bill Newell. “By collaborating with AISC, we’re giving inspectors and engineers direct access to the insights and innovations shaping the industry’s future.”
Three days of technical sessions, panel discussions, and live demonstrations, will equip attendees with tools to improve inspection planning, documentation, and execution. Participants can also earn up to 18 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) toward AWS recertification.
Keynote sessions and technical presentations featuring top subject matter experts.
Roundtable discussions that bridge disciplines across welding, NDT, and construction.
Exhibit hall showcasing the latest inspection technologies and tools.
Complimentary lunches, coffee breaks, and evening Exhibitor Happy Hours.
This conference is designed to provide Certified Welding Inspectors (CWIs), welding professionals, and industry leaders with a clear understanding of the legal and ethical responsibilities that accompany the CWI credential. Participants will explore the critical role inspectors play in ensuring public safety, maintaining compliance with codes and standards, and upholding professional integrity.
Through real-world examples, regulatory insights, and ethical case studies, this session will highlight how a CWI’s decisions and documentation can have significant legal implications. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of liability issues, proper record keeping, conflicts of interest, and how to navigate challenging ethical situations.
Whether you are a newly certified inspector or a seasoned professional, this session will strengthen your knowledge of AWS QC1 Code of Ethics, reinforce best practices, and equip you with the tools to make sound, defensible decisions in the field.
Take advantage of one of the industry’s best opportunities to connect with peers, experts, and a “who’s who” of welding, NDT, and construction inspections.
Earn 18 PDHs for attending IEC and an additional 8 PDHs for the pre-conference workshop.
Exchange ideas and solutions that improve safety, quality, and efficiency.
Discover the latest inspection technologies and practices shaping the field.
IEC 2026 offers a range of sponsorship and exhibitor packages for companies seeking to connect with decision-makers in welding, inspection, and construction. Premium booth placement and Platinum, Gold, and Silver sponsorship tiers are available.
