The welding workforce is at a tipping point. Shops are desperate for hands that can produce a quality bead to strict codes and standards, and never mind new technology like robots, collaborative applications, and lasers thrown into the mix. I’ve been fortunate to live it: torch in my hand, teaching the next generation, and now supporting the industry through workforce development. The skills gap is real, and it’s ballooning, evolving faster than we can catch up. But I’m not sweating it.
