By: BRIAN P. HOHMANN, JAMES J. WALL, AND DAVE HANSEN

This paper details the sample fabrication for a multiyear experimental program with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) to nondestructively quantify the stress and strain states of pressurized thick-walled piping samples with notches of known dimensions electron discharge machined (EDM) from the inner diameter (I.D.). Phase 1 was performed in 2022–2023 and utilized plain carbon steel A106B grade alloy material of Schedule 120 wall thickness. Phase 2 utilized wrought 304L stainless steel alloy pipe segments..
