Award Presentation

AWS presents the Robert L. Peaslee Memorial Brazing award each year recognizing the author(s) whose paper is considered to be the best contribution to the science and technology of Brazing published in the Welding Journal during the previous calendar year. The award consists of a certificate and honorarium.

Robert L. Peaslee Brazing Scholarship

The Robert L. Peaslee Brazing Scholarship was created in 2004 by Robert L. Peaslee and the AWS Detroit Brazing and Soldering Division of the AWS Detroit Section.  It is awarded yearly to a student pursuing a minimum four year bachelors degree, or graduate degree, in an engineering school program emphasizing brazing applications.

This 3 day Braze Class focuses on Braze Repair of Gas Turbine Engine Superalloy Components and covers the following topics:

Introduction and history of gas turbine engines, Degradation of gas turbine components, Fundamentals of Diffusion Brazing, Why Braze is acceptable and vital for repairing today's Advanced Superalloys, Cleaning and Preparation for Braze repair, Furnace cycles and Vacuum Furnace requirements, Braze alloy systems, Materials and Processes, Applications of Diffusion Brazing repairs, Advantages of Braze versus Weld repairs, Evaluating Microstructures and Mechanical Properties, How to develop a Wide Gap Diffusion Brazing system repair, and the most FUN is the hands on practical training devoted to applying braze paste/slurry, pre-sintered preforms and tape.

Unlike other classroom-only seminars, this course is offered at Wall Colmonoy’s Brazing Engineering Center where you’ll have the unique opportunity to view the actual brazing application process in a state-of-the-art facility. Spending time on the shop floor, you will actually apply different forms of filler metal to our supplied samples which will then be vacuum brazed.
