Miami, FL, November 13, 2025 | Shipbuilders, welders, and engineers face a complex world of evolving materials, advanced technologies, and ever-changing codes. Knowing where to focus, how to implement innovations, and what practices will stand the test of time is a constant challenge.  To reduce this gap, American Welding Society (AWS) is pleased to announce the 3rd Shipbuilding and Aluminum Conference, taking place April 13–15, 2026, at the Sheraton New Orleans. This three-day event brings together industry leaders, engineers, and professionals to explore the latest technologies, materials, and practices shaping shipbuilding and aluminum welding.

Participants will gain the insight, strategies, and tools needed to turn industry advancements into actionable results. Kevin Roossinck (Ingalls Shipbuilding), Vincent Mangino (General Dynamics Electric Boat), and Andrew Pfaller (Miller Electric) will guide attendees through sessions that highlight the latest in shipbuilding and aluminum welding — from emerging filler metals and automation to modern welding processes and aluminum metallurgy. Marcus Cridland, Chief Metallurgist, ABS, will be keynote for the Shipbuilding conference track, and Bruce Albrecht, VP Innovation, ITW, will be the keynote for the Aluminum track.

Shipbuilding Track:
Engineers, designers, and fabricators will explore how new technologies are reshaping commercial and Navy shipbuilding, including:

  • Filler metal and equipment innovations
  • Automation strategies to boost productivity
  • Additive manufacturing opportunities
  • Updates to qualification and fabrication codes

Aluminum Track:
Welders, engineers, and production staff will master the challenges of aluminum welding with sessions covering:

  • Alloy identification and metallurgy
  • Best practices for metal preparation and welding processes
  • Understanding and preventing common weld defects
  • Cutting-edge technologies like hybrid processes, laser, and friction stir welding

Keynotes & Industry Leadership:
Attendees will hear from Marcus Cridland, Chief Metallurgist at ABS, along with other leading experts, who will share case studies, lessons learned, and emerging trends that can be applied immediately.

Networking & Exhibits:
The conference also offers tabletop exhibits, a happy hour, and multiple opportunities to connect with peers, suppliers, and industry innovators. Companies can showcase products and services through regular or premium tabletop displays, and exclusive sponsorships are available.
