By code requirement, a Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) must be properly qualified and accepted by a relevant engineering authority. CWIs or SCWIs who hold the Welding Procedure Qualifier Endorsement have demonstrated that, with appropriate engineering oversight, they are able to qualify WPSs.

  • Any CWI or SCWI wishing to add an AWS credential that documents their knowledge, skills, and ability to create welding procedure specifications, as well as CWIs seeking to take their career to the next level and become a SCWI. Their added skillset will also contribute to confidence in their company’s ability to deliver sound welds.
  • Existing CWIs and SCWIs looking to satisfy the reexamination requirements for 9-year recertification, provided that the endorsement is earned during the immediate 9-year period.
    • The student body may encompass:
      • CWIs
      • SCWIs
The objective of this seminar is to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to confidently tackle the AWS Welding Procedure Qualifier endorsement exam.

  • B2.1/B2.1M:2021, Specification for Welding Procedure and Performance Qualification

Please be sure to bring a digital or hard copy of AWS D1.1 to the seminar. If you do not have a copy of AWS D1.1, it can be purchased through the AWS Bookstore.

This seminar consists of 16 hours of instruction provided either in-person or online and aims to provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to qualify welding procedures. Here's a bit more about what to expect:

  • Understanding AWS Codes and Standards - Participants learn about the AWS codes and standards relevant to welding procedures. This includes the AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code and others, depending on the seminar's focus.
  • Welding Procedure Qualification - This seminar covers the process of developing and qualifying welding procedures to ensure they meet industry standards for quality and safety.
  • Welding Variables; This seminar educates attendees on the various welding variables, such as welding processes, materials, filler metals, and joint configurations, and how they affect welding procedure development and qualification.
