  • What is a CEU?

A continuing education unit (CEU) is a measure used in continuing education programs to assist a professional in maintaining their license in a given profession. Continuing education or professional development is required in many fields, including welding and engineering.

The Continuing Education Unit or CEU was created and defined in 1970 after IACET and the U.S. Department of Education task force studied the measurement of non-credit continuing education activities. The continuing education unit (CEU) was designed to:

    • Provide a standard unit of measurement for continuing education and training,

    • Quantify continuing education and training (CE/T) activities, and

    • Accommodate for the diversity of providers, activities, and purposes in adult education.

  • What about PDHS?
AWS will continue to administer PDHs for its educational offerings alongside CEUs. Please contact AWS for more information regarding what to submit for your CWI 9-Year recertification.
  • Why is this important?
Being IACET Accredited allows a student to confidently participate in an organization’s education programs. As an IACET Accredited Provider, our training adheres to the ANSI/IACET Standard for Continuing Education and Training. The IACET CEU assures employers, credentialing associations, and licensing bodies, that a learner has completed a quality training program which meets the national standard for continuing education and training.
