PRESENTATION: Optimizing Digital Pipe, Asset, Weld and Tank Inspections

In this presentation, we will explore how to modernize and streamline inspections for pipes, assets, welds, and tanks by transitioning from manual to digital processes. Attendees will gain insights into key software features that ensure effective, efficient, and secure digital inspections. We'll cover critical capabilities such as API integration for seamless data exchange, barcode scanning for rapid identification, and granular user permissions for controlled access. The software will also support progress tracking, allowing teams to monitor inspection completion rates and milestones in real time, and material traceability, enabling full visibility into the origin, movement, and usage of materials throughout the asset lifecycle. Additional features include offline functionality for fieldwork in remote locations, compatibility with both phones and tablets, robust security measures, business intelligence (BI)-ready data, support for map-based views to provide spatial context, and integration with gauges for real-time readings. This session will provide a practical roadmap for implementing digital inspection solutions that enhance accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency.

PRESENTATION: Recent and Upcoming Changes to the B31 Codes

Recent changes in ASME B31 codes and standards will be addressed. Revisions in the B31.3 Process Piping Code 2024 Edition pertaining to welding, examination, inspection, and NDT will be reviewed, as well as compared with several other B31 codes. Upcoming B31 revisions include incorporating B31.12 Hydrogen Piping and Pipelines back into B31.3 Process Piping and B31.8 Gas Transmission and Distribution Piping Systems.

Consistency in ASME B31 codes is being provided partially by development of several ASME B31 standards, such as B31P Standard Heat Treatments for Piping and B31T Standard Toughness Requirements for Piping. The ASME NM-1 Thermoplastic Piping Systems and NM-2 Fiber-Reinforced Thermosetting-Resin Piping Systems are other examples.

PRESENTATION: Beyond the Bead: Applying Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing to Large-Scale, High-Demand Components

Additive manufacturing is expanding beyond small-scale applications, with Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) enabling the production of large, structurally critical components for heavy industry. While processes like Laser Powder Bed Fusion excel at smaller parts, WAAM delivers high-deposition, full-scale builds in a range of alloys making it a strong candidate for components traditionally forged or cast. This session will share real-world WAAM case studies to highlight design considerations, production timelines, and performance validation. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of where WAAM fits in the manufacturing toolbox and how it can be applied to meet demanding service requirements.

PRESENTATION: To Mechanize, or Not to Mechanize, That is the Question

We all may know it makes sense to mechanize a 100-500 mile 42” pipeline project. What about the 1-10 mile 24” pipeline? Fabrication? Rough terrain projects? For decades few factors determined whether a project made sense to or not to mechanize. Gain a better understanding of how and why over the past years the few factors have turned into many and the line to or not to mechanize has become blurrier. The amount of not to mechanize projects may be smaller than ever before when looking at the current and future state of the pipeline industry.
