Course Overview:

This course provides an understanding of the basic principles and fundamentals of radiation safety applicable to gamma and x-ray industrial radiography (IR). It addresses all required training topics specified in federal (10 CFR 34.43) and equivalent state radiation control regulations; and topics listed in App. A to ANSI/ASNT CP-105 2011 (excluding neutron radiography). Learning outcomes are assessed using written quizzes at the end of each lesson and a comprehensive final exam.

Completion of this eLearning course, in addition to employer-sponsored hands-on training, provides 40 hours of training toward the prerequisite for the ASNT IRRSP exam and equivalent radiographer certification exams administered by state radiation control agencies. After completing the NDT Classroom course, the individual’s RSO may require additional hours of site-specific training (addressing employer O&E procedures, state regulations, and hands-on instruction on radiography and safety equipment). It should be noted that site-specific training is required by federal (10 CFR 19.12, 10 CFR 34.43) and equivalent state regulations. Course content is supplemented with lesson summaries/glossaries (that also serve as certification exam study aides) and a recommended readings list to facilitate the use of blended training methodologies.

The course enables prospective radiographers to master the required “body of knowledge” subjects at their own pace and schedule before they undergo site-specific instruction to complete their formal training.

NOTE: Recommend Reading assignments are provided for each lesson, which are listed at the beginning of the course. Completion of the readings and self-study is strongly encouraged and will add to the overall training benefit and time to be credited. It will also better prepare the student for the practical/hands-on session. It is recommended that the student keep a log of self-study time. It is also recommended that the applicable RSO be involved and confirm that the reading and self-study assignments have been completed. This should become a part of the student’s training records, which may become part of a radiographer certification exam application.
