AWS - Certified Welding Inspector
ANNOUNCEMENT
Effective for exams to be taken June 1, 2008 or later, the Codebook Exams (Part C) for CWI certification and CWI/SCWI endorsements listed below will require the codebook edition(s) noted. If selecting one of these exams for your Part C option, please be sure to bring the edition(s) noted. Older editions will not be useable.

To qualify for exam registration, a Welding Inspector Exam Application and the required supporting documentation must be submitted and approved. Applications with incomplete or missing information will be considered unqualified unless the missing documentation can be provided within two (2) weeks of being notified (via telephone or email) that their application is incomplete. If the applicant fails to meet the qualification criteria for the exam, the exam fee (or the exam portion of a seminar/exam package fee) will be refunded minus a processing fee.

The standard application processing time is four weeks and applicants will be notified by an exam confirmation package.
Please note: AWS cannot guarantee space at an exam site if the application has not been processed and/or approved by the Certification Department. When circumstances do not permit meeting the registration deadlines, fast track processing is available at an additional fee.

Interpretation of Subclause 8.1 of AWS QC1:2007 Approved January 17, 2008 by the AWS Certification Committee Text of 8.1 of AWS QC1:2007:
“8.1 Applicants for certification as SCWI, CWI, or CAWI shall satisfy the visual acuity requirements of 6.1 of AWS B5.1, Specification for the Qualification of Welding Inspectors.”
Interpretation:
These visual acuity requirements may be satisfied with the use of only one eye.

Note to Exam Candidates regarding API-1104 code:
The American Petroleum Institute has published the 20th Edition of API-1104, Welding of Pipelines and Related Facilities.
Effective 01 June 2006, candidates choosing the API-1104 open codebook exam may only use the 20th Edition. The new API-1104 exam will consist of 60 multiple choice questions taken in the same two hour format. The new API-1104 exam is not compatible with any editions of API-1104 other than the 20th Edition.
Candidates are responsible for purchasing the API-1104 codebook and, if not in possession of abound copy of the standard. must present proof of purchase for any photocopies presented.
