D. Fred and Marian L. Bovie Scholarship

Introduction

Fred Bovie began his career as an application engineer in the Gas and Welding Unit at Airco. During his 27 years there, he held a variety of marketing and operating management positions and eventually served as Vice President and General Manager for Airco's arc equipment and filler metal business.

In 1980, Bovie joined Alloy Rods Corp., and served as President until its sale to the ESAB Group in Sweden. Bovie then served as president and chief executive of The ESAB Group, Inc., the company's North America subsidiary until his retirement.

In 2001, Fred Bovie was elected to the AWS Class of Counselors.

Purpose

The purpose for this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to those individuals interested in pursuing a degree in welding engineering at The Ohio State University. Applicants pursuing a degree in electrical engineering may be considered if there are no qualified applicants in welding engineering.

Eligibility

The D. Fred and Marian L. Bovie National Scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate pursuing a minimum four-year bachelor's degree in welding engineering (WE), or electrical engineering, if no qualified applications are received for welding, at The Ohio State University.
