Recent SENSE Updates

The SENSE (Schools Excelling through National Skills Standards Education) guidelines are currently undergoing a major series of revisions. The SENSE Subcommittee of the Education Committee has completed or is working on the following projects:

  • Modularization of Level I Entry Welder. There are now nine separate modules for the Entry Level Welder. Schools have the option of implementing SENSE by module (including the basic five welding modules) or by the original comprehensive approach. This is available to you for download.
  • Revision and update of QC10:2006. The qualification document are available for download.
  • Revision of SENSE Level I Exams and WPS’s. Each module has its own revised exams. The WPS’s identified in QC10 are updated with a consistent format. The beta versions are ready for download.
  • Revision of SENSE welder certificates. Graduates will soon receive a card that identifies successful completion of the SENSE. The certificate card will indicate each process that was completed.
  • Modularization of Level II Advanced Welder. The SENSE Subcommittee is working on this modularization and expects completion by 2009.
  • SENSE Welding Program Accreditation. Schools will soon be able to have their SENSE aligned welding program accredited through AWS. This will also satisfy Perkins IV requirements. The accreditation process is anticipated for release in 2009.
We thank you for your time and your commitment to providing your students with the best possible welding program.
