How do I know I'm ready to become a CWI?
The qualifications necessary to apply to become a CWI are explained in QC1-2007 Standard for AWS Certification of Welding Inspectors. This document is free. Click here for a PDF copy or visit http://www.aws.org/certification/docs where it can be viewed and printed as well.

You may download the CWI application form from www.aws.org or call (800) 443-9353, ext. 273, to have one mailed to you.

The examination takes a full day and is made up of three parts: Open Book (based on a code such as D1.1 or API 1104); Closed Book (general knowledge); and Practical Weld Inspection test. You must present a photo ID to be admitted to the exam, and you will be registered and monitored by proctors.
