About RWMA
In 2005, the Resistance Welding Manufacturing Alliance (RWMA) became an AWS Standing Committee. Originally founded in 1935, RWMA was formerly known as Resistance Welder Manufacturers' Association.

WHO Are We?
RWMA is a group of professionals dedicated to the advancement and knowledge of the resistance welding process. In June 2005, the American Welding Society (AWS) assumed management of RWMA as a Standing Committee of AWS. The committee includes regular membership, which includes machinery, component and copper product manufacturers, along with an associate membership of end users, distributors, suppliers and educators. Combined, the entire membership has become a dynamic force for promoting the resistance welding process and setting resistance welding standards in the industry.

The members of RWMA are those manufacturers of high quality products and services that focus on supporting the U.S. and international welding markets.

What Is Resistance Welding?
Resistance welding uses heat and force to create a bond between two base metals. There are several different forms of resistance welding such as spot, seam, and projection welding. The differences between the three involve the types and shapes of weld electrodes used and the actual process involved. Weld electrodes are used to actually conduct the heat to the base metals as they are forged together. These electrodes are usually made of copper because of its conductivity and low resistance. Generally, water is used to cool the electrodes during the process. Water flows inside the cavity of the electrode, thus removing excess heat. Many different types of welding machines can be built to fit many different types of applications.

WHAT Does RWMA Do?
RWMA is an association committed to benefiting its members by sharing information within the welding industry.

WHY Do We Spend Time Doing It?
In order to better serve your customers, you need to know what the distributors and end-users are really looking for when it comes to purchasing and consuming the products you manufacture. The networking opportunities and communications within RWMA focuses directly on the issues or questions you may have for the welding markets to help grow your business and brand awareness.

WHEN And WHERE Can You Find Us?
RWMA is available to you throughout the year, as well as accessible quarterly newsletters that are sent to our members. RWMA works to educate and enlighten its membership with the latest issues and/or trends in the welding industry. The networking available to you and your organization will well-surpass your own capabilities as an individual.

RWMA's Mission
RWMA mission is to advance resistance welding technology, broaden its use, and promote its economic benefits.

RWMA's Objectives:

  • Promote the technical and economic advantages of resistance welding.
  • Support education relating to the safe and proper use of equipment and accessories used for resistance welding.
  • Promote the advancement of standards and practices relating to the design, testing, installation, operation, and maintenance of resistance welding equipment.
  • Support the development and use of process and procedure standards relating to the proper uses of such equipment.
  • Encourage industry participation, networking, and the highest standards of conduct.
