AWS published the new bridge welding standard, AASHTO/AWS
D1.5M/D1.5:2008, to be used in conjunction with the AASHTO Standard
Specification for Highway Bridges or AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design
Specifications. This code covers the best practices and general
provisions of routine bridge welding applications. |

from more than 75 countries worldwide — that is a 27% increase versus

Mr. Shook was elected to the IIW board during the IIW 60th Annual
Assembly and International Conference held July 1-8, 2007, in
Dubrovnik, Croatia.
"I am very enthusiastic about joining IIW’s board,” said Mr. Shook.
“The shortage of skilled welders as well as the increasingly global
economy continues to transform the welding and fabrication industry
landscape. Collaborating with the IIW and introducing new ways in which
AWS can help to unite, strengthen and evolve the welding industry
across the globe will be critical to making a difference for future
generations," Shook said.

Santa Clara valley Section celebrates their establishment of the Lou
DeFreitas-Santa Clara Valley Section $60,000 scholarship fund – the
largest original section-endowed scholarship in the American Welding
Society Foundation’s history. The fund will enable the AWS Foundation
to award to welding students in the Santa Clara Valley Section $3,000
in scholarships on an annual basis. |
