FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Resistance Welding Manufacturers Association (RWMA) has become a standing committee within the American Welding Society. RWMA's Executive, Education, Marketing, Membership, and Technical subcommittees will exist within the RWMA standing committee. AWS staff and volunteers will support these committees, and the RWMA will have access to AWS's electronic meeting infrastructure.

RWMA membership will be open to companies that manufacture resistance welding equipment. Three new membership categories will be added to the existing membership categories: Sales and Marketing, Consultants, and Supplies.

RWMA members must be AWS Supporting or Sustaining members. New RWMA members will pay joint RWMA/AWS dues after June 1, 2005.

Publication inventory and RWMA financial reserves will be transferred to AWS. RWMA will establish two perpetual $50,000 scholarships under the AWS Foundation umbrella. Each fund will grant one $2,500 scholarship per year. RWMA will determine the selection criteria for its scholarships. However, the function of the scholarship subcommittee wil be transferred to the AWS Foundation.

The American Welding Society is the largest organization in the world dedicated to advancing the science, technology, and application of welding and allied processes, including joining, brazing, soldering, cutting, and thermal spraying.
