MIAMI, Florida December 2, 2005 Scott Braun of Two Rivers, Wisconsin, has won the $2,500 grand prize in the American Welding Societyıs Second Professional Welder Competition at the FABTECH International & AWS Welding Show in Chicago, November 14-16.
Troy Jaeger, also of Two Rivers, won the $1,000 second prize. Both men are employed by Manitowoc Crane Group in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
The third place price of $500 went to Anh H. Nguyen of Louisville, Kentucky. He is employed as an advanced welder at Kentucky Trailer Services in Louisville.
The competition attracted 133 participants. It involved welding an I-beam to a vertical plate, simulating a beam-to-column weld in the construction of a building. The participants had five minutes to complete the task. Their work was judged on the weldıs size and appearance.
