FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MIAMI December 14, 2005 The American Welding Society has published a new standard, AWS 14.7/D14.7M:2005, Recommended Practices for Surfacing and Reconditioning of Industrial Mill Rolls, which deals with surfacing, repairing, and reconditioning industrial mill rolls in the lumber, metals, paper, and plastics industries by the use of welding.

The first edition of this new standard represents the culmination of a decade of work by the AWS D14 Committee on Machinery and Equipment. It covers preparation, building up and overlaying by welding, postweld heat treating, finish machining, inspecting, and record-keeping for new and reconditioned industrial mill rolls.

Although the primary focus of this standard is the use of the submerged arc welding process for surfacing and reconditioning, its principles also can be applied, with suitable modifications, to the use of gas metal arc welding, flux cored arc welding, and electroslag cladding.

The document contains 66 pages, and includes 20 figures and 13 tables.

Beginning January 1, 2006, this and other AWS publications may be purchased through World Engineering Xchange, Ltd. (WEX). In the U.S. and Canada, call toll-free 888-WELDING (888-935-3464); elsewhere, call 305-824-1177; fax to 305-826-6195; or visit WEX online at www.aws.org/standards.
