International Scholarships

This scholarship is not available for 2017-2018

Purpose
To provide financial assistance to international students who want to pursue their education in welding and related joining technologies. Students who are not assigned to an AWS section are eligible to apply.

Eligibility Overview
International Scholarships will be awarded to full time international students pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies in joining sciences.  Applicants can matriculate into accredited joining science programs at institutions anywhere in the world. Student must be in the top 20% of the institution’s grading system. Proof of country citizenship is required with each application.

In addition, all applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Applicants must currently attend a Baccalaureate degree-granting institution.
  • Financial support could be a consideration in prioritizing candidates.
  • Applicants for scholarships and designated institutions are strongly encouraged to be members of AWS.
  • Applicants must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or an advanced degree if they wish to be considered.
  • Available to students attending universities in any country.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicant must have completed at least one year of welding or related field of study at the Baccalaureate degree-granting institution.
  • Student must be enrolled full time.
  • Official proof of acceptance from the academic institution.
  • Proof of country citizenship.
  • Applicant must submit all required application information.
  • Applicants may reapply; however, persons who have received this award may reapply and may be granted the award for a maximum of four times.
  • Financial information regarding tuition and fees from the academic institution must be included with each application.

Submission Deadline
Deadline for submission of all application information is April 1st, established by the postmark, for the following Fall academic term.

Application Process
Students must submit all requested application information, in English, including:

  • International Scholarship Application Form. (Applicant's name, address, telephone number. Applicant's e-mail address if available. The facsimile number or e-mail address of an English-speaking contact at the applicant's academic institution is required for communication purposes.) The only fields not required are marital status and sex. All other information is required.
  • Copy of the proposed curriculum.
  • Verification of Enrollment by institution.
  • Two letters of personal reference.
  • Two-page Professional Goal Statement to include a brief biography.
  • Grade Transcript or equivalent from each college, university, trade/technical school listed on the application.
  • AWS membership number, if member.
  • Proof of country citizenship.
  • Financial information regarding tuition and fees from the academic institution must be included with each application.

Please note: Recipients may be requested to submit a color photograph for publicity purposes.

Selection
All International Scholarship applications will be submitted to the Education Scholarship Committee for evaluation and selection.

Awards
Scholarship funds are for tuition and fee expenses only, not to exceed $2,500 (US dollars/year.)

All funds are transferred, e.g. wired/mailed, to the appropriate institution in U. S. currency. Any unused funds are required to be returned. No awards will be paid directly to the recipient.

International students remain eligible to apply for AWS District Scholarships, if attending an academic institution in the United States.

Please note: The International Scholarship Program is not available to students who reside in North America; i.e., Canada, United States, or Mexico.
