AWS Honors 2009 Image of Welding Award Winners at Welding Show in Chicago

The American Welding Society (AWS) announced its Image of Welding Awards winners who were honored in an award ceremony in Chicago in November 2009. The winners are listed in their respective categories as follows:

  • Individual Jennifer Simpson, a marketing professional at Arc-Zone.com. Jennifer has taken the lead in developing two industry leading blogs for Arc-Zone.com; JoeWelder.com and
    CarmenElectrode.com

  • Educator Jeff Smith, a teacher at Northeast Technology Center in Pryor, OK. Jeff is a licenses welder who has been teaching for nine years and encourages his students to work as a team.

  • Educational Facility Metropolitan Community College (MCC) in Omaha, NE. MCC offers multiple levels of welding program completion and is active in the community by donating time and work to area projects.

  • Large Business Burtek Inc. in Chesterfield, MI. Burtek employees over 300 people and constantly gives back to the community, most recently donating computers, tables and chairs to the children's section of the Chesterfield Township Library which has named the section Burtek Children's Technology Center.

  • Small Business No 2009 winner

  • Section AWS Indiana Section, one of the AWS's most active sections. The section conducts the Indiana SkillsUSA contest for both Indiana State and Indianapolis Regionals. They also helped build an art project on the grounds of a local elementary school to offer the city a better understanding of why welding is so important in the community.

  • Distributor WESCO Gas & Welding Supply in Prichard, AL. WESCO is fully invested in the tools and facilities needed to be committed to training future welders. Their facility is fully equipped to train and certify welders in an array of processes and applications and is one of the few AWS Accredited Test Facilities in the Region.

The Image of Welding Awards ceremony is one of many events organized by AWS. The Fabtech Show ran from November 15 -18, 2009 at the McCormick Center in Chicago, and also featured a variety of seminars, conferences, professional and educational programs along with a Weld-Off competition.

2010 Image of Welding Awards will be announced at the Fabtech Show in Atlanta this November.
